夏の除草作業風景です
夕方の涼しい時間に、カマを使って稲の間の雑草を抜きます。
中干しを終えた田んぼは土が固く案外歩きやすいのです。実際に田んぼの中を歩くと稲の生育を直に見ることができ、これもまた良いことです。農薬を使用しない雄町の田んぼでは雑草との戦いが最後まで続きます。
出穂してからでは穂を傷つけてしまうので今が勝負！

In the cool hours of the evening, I use a sickle to remove the weeds growing between the rice plants.
After the mid-season drainage, the soil in the rice field becomes firm and surprisingly easy to walk on. Walking through the field allows me to observe the growth of the rice up close, which is another benefit. In this Omachi rice field, where no pesticides are used, the battle against weeds continues until the very end.
Once the rice has headed, touching the plants can damage the grain, so now is the critical time!
