望地弁財天について
望地弁財天
いづみ橋の酒米圃場がある相模原市 望地河原。
田んぼの用水路をたどるとひっそりと鎮座する弁天様です。
もともとは江島神社に安置されていましたが、養蚕鎮守のためにかつてあった相模川の中洲「望島殿」に移されました。その後大洪水で島は流されてしまいましたが祀られている弁財天坐像は難を逃れ、昭和29年に現在の望地河原に安置されることとなったそうです。(相模原市HPより)
日頃から訪れていますが弁天様にそのような過去があったとは知りませんでした。いづみ橋がここで米作りをするずっと前から、望地河原の田んぼを見守り続けて下さっている、素敵な弁天様です。

Mouchi benzaiten.
Tucked away along the irrigation channels of the rice fields in Boji Riverside, Sagamihara — where Izumibashi cultivates its sake rice — you’ll find this quietly seated Benzaiten deity.
Originally enshrined at Enoshima Shrine, she was moved to a sandbank in the Sagami River called Moushima-den as a guardian of silkworm farming. Though the island was swept away by a major flood, the Benzaiten statue miraculously survived. In 1954, she found her new home here in Mouchi Riverside. (Source: Sagamihara City website)
I’ve visited her many times, but I never knew her story until recently. Long before Izumibashi started growing rice here, she has been watching over these fields. A truly special presence.
