“a chain weeder” and “Honen-ebi “

When we grow rice by organic farming, at first step we pull up weeds with the chain weeder instead of using herbicide. After spraying akanuka (rice bran), we weed by pulling the chain weeder in rice field.
For us, pulling the weeder is a tough work and continues until rice plant grow up to a point.
After that we can use a weeder machine with a noisy engine.
But we use the chain weeder slowly, we can meet some living things. Today we met many Honen-ebi（fairly shrimp）.”Honen” means good harvest in Japanese. We hope that this season will be a good crop season, too.
